CORONAVIRUS AND CHRIST
This is John Piper's latest book where he invites readers to stand on the solid Rock, who is Jesus Christ, in whom our souls can be sustained by the sovereign God who ordains, governs, and reigns over all things to accomplish his wise and good purposes for those who trust in him. Piper offers six answers from the Bible to the question
What is God doing through the coronavirus?
A PRAYING LIFE
During this time, it would be great to be encouraged to pray consistently and for bigger things than just COVID-19. Here is the publishers blurb for this book “Prayer is so hard that unless circumstances demand it-an illness, or saying grace at a meal-most of us simply do not pray. We prize accomplishments and productivity over time in prayer. Even Christians experience this prayerlessness-a kind of practical unbelief that leaves us marked by fear, anxiety, joylessness, and spiritual lethargy. Prayer is all about relationship. Based on the popular seminar by the same name, A Praying Life has discipled thousands of Christians to a vibrant prayer life full of joy and power. When Jesus describes the intimacy He seeks with us, He talks about joining us for dinner (Revelation 3:20). A Praying Life feels like having dinner with good friends. It is the way we experience and connect to God. In A Praying Life, author Paul Miller lays out a pattern for living in relationship with God and includes helpful habits and approaches to prayer that enable us to return to a childlike faith.”
NONE LIKE HIM
This book explores 10 attributes of God that make him different from everything else in all creation (infinite, incomprehensible, self existent, self sufficient, eternal, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign). A good book to help lift our eyes to focus on the wonder of God. Each chapter comes with some practical application to think through. Although written by a woman for an audience of women, it’s a great little read for anyone wanting to think more about the nature and character of God. You don’t have to take my word for it, you can read Tim Challies recommendation of it here.
